A bit about me…

It’s been 20 years since I met a doula for the first time. My mum didn’t feel up to supporting me during labour and directed me to find a doula to act as substitute. I was lucky enough to stumble across Nicola Mahdiyyah of Red Tent Doulas and I instantly fell in love. We hired her during both of my pregnancies and she was wonderful. She gave me confidence, made me feel safe, taught me to trust my body and helped me connect to my instincts. I felt inspired by her doula work and ever since then I’ve had a passion for all things birth related and a strong desire to help improve other people's experiences of pregnancy and birth. For 20 years I have kept up to date with the latest pregnancy and birth research and in 2019 I trained as a doula with the Red Tent.

I’m truly honoured to do this work and to provide families with doula support through pregnancy, during birth and in the early weeks and months of parenthood.

I welcome all parents and any family, people of all religions, nationalities, races and colours, all gender expressions and identities, all sexual orientations, all abilities or disabilities and all routes to parenthood.

I set up Leith Doula Collective in 2025 https://www.instagram.com/leith_doula_collective/  with fellow doulas sophie orton doula and Rowan Louisa Birthworker . In the short time we’ve been working together as a trio we've run monthly birth preparation sessions and hosted Shellie Poulter’s Birthing Biomechanics Workshop. There will be more exciting plans coming soon!

I am an active lay member of the Lothian Maternity Voices Partnership – Maternity Services which is a collaborative forum where parents, families, birth workers and NHS Lothian staff work together to improve maternity and neonatal services.

I trained with:

  • Red Tent Doula Preparation with Nicola Mahdiyyah nicolathebirthkeeper (she was also my wonderful doula in 2006 and again in 2010)

  • Birthing Awareness Training with Mark Harris

  • The Queer Birth Club LGBT+ Competency with AJ Silver

  • Birthing Biomechanics with Shellie Poulter

I’m also a proud mum to two teenage boys, a freelance radio producer at the BBC, a reiki healer and an occasional dog walker.
